As founders of the British Home (a Brookfield, Illinois senior campus that evolved to become part of Cantata Adult Life Services), the DBE launched an effort in 1920 that has flourished for almost 100 years. Over the years, the DBE has been an anchor, adding positive impact to the lives we touch.

  • Through the "Special Friends" program, Midwest DBE chapters help build community on the Brookfield senior living campus by forging relationships with campus residents. Residents can be paired with a DBE chapter that will send letters and small gifts, as well as provide special visits. If you are a campus resident who would like to be matched with a DBE chapter, or if you are a DBE chapter that would like to be matched with a resident, please email

  • The Life Enrichment department provides communication between DBE MidWest chapters and residents. Life Enrichment ensures that residents receive chapter gifts and cards and confirms receipt with chapters. DBE chapters can send gifts to: Life Enrichment, Cantata/British Home, 8700 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513 and include the name of the recipient.

  • DBE chapters also sponsor entertainmnent, education, and honor holiday traditions inspired by British heritage. Through conversation, storytelling, music, and baking, the DBE contributes history, heritage and warmth to the resident experience.

  • Midwest DBE chapters raise funds for special programs, projects and an endowment to support older adults with lesser financial means.

  • The DBE continues to provide leadership on various committees, task forces, and boards.

  • The DBE champions the creation of a Therapeutic English Garden space on the Brookfield senior living campus. To learn more or donate, click here.
